Patients Getting Antibiotics within an Hour of Having Surgery to Help Prevenge Infections.

The administration of antibacterial drugs just prior to surgery improves the ability of patients to fight infections that may occur by preventing infections that might be caused by a surgical infection. Patients who receive antibiotics more than one hour before or after they make their first incision in the operative site will have higher rates of infection if they are given antibiotic treatment several hours before the surgery.
